Buttercream Icing


  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk

  • Beat butter and shortening together. Add vanilla and powdered sugar. Mix then add milk and beat till fluffy and light.

  • * You can omit the shortening and use butter instead if just for spreading on the cake and cupcakes.  Shortening is to hold the piped decorations hold their shape.
