- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups confectioners' sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Beat butter and shortening together. Add vanilla and powdered sugar. Mix then add milk and beat till fluffy and light.
- * You can omit the shortening and use butter instead if just for spreading on the cake and cupcakes. Shortening is to hold the piped decorations hold their shape.
